underwater!

My stressed level is sky high at the moment! We discovered some water in the store room a couple of weeks ago but never realised where it came from. Then, when I was away at JDA, Colin rang to tell me the soiled pipe is bursting! Dam! We cannot use the bath and basin upstairs as all the water will come through the soiled pipe; and the downstairs shower has no hot water! Sadly, we had more rain than we wish for, and we can't get a plumber in to sort it out!

The Store room is part of the old garage that we converted in Summer 2009. There already have two doors joining to the house, so we thought we will section up about 4 foot for storage. We hardly use the garage as it is too much hassle putting the car in and out, so we thought we will create an extra living space. The bigger part was originally plan for a study room or extra lounge but it never happened. Colin is at work at least 13 hours a day and we are away at the dog show most weekends ... When the extra room is done, I used it to train baby Sizzle in there and he absolutely loves this space. Everyday, he will ask to go in, either he wants to play or he wants some quite time off from the hooligans. Then, I used it as the whelping room. It is quite spacious and I can easily separate the others and I can sleep in there with the bitches, so it's brilliant. Now, we named the room "the whelping room".

The Store room has all sorts of pipes around the wall and electrical cable around the ceiling, so it's good to partition up to cover the ugly bits. When we converted the rooms, we have not touch any of the pipes or electrical cables but just last winter, we found the leak on the soiled pipe. It was an old soiled pipe, the metal type. I asked my cleaner's husband who is a handyman if he can fix the problem and he did the job plus changing all the gutters for a reasonable price. It was good until now.

I am no professional but by the look of it, he has done a cow boy job. First of all, his connections were rubbish and the gutters around the edge are also leaking when we had heavy rain. I also found that he has not done anything to cover the ceiling properly and left a hole, so this is why we had rain water coming through. My guess of the soiled pipe bursting is there is a blockage on the drain and the water cannot flow/flash down quick enough. Having a big willow tree and their leafs are not helping. We seems to have trouble with the train full of willow tree leafs in windy days.

Unfortunately, the water had traveled all the way to the whelping room as well, so we now had two underwater rooms. Very annoying and yet there is nothing I can do to stop it until the plumber comes to fix it! All wooden furniture in the store room are now rotten, I dare not look at the furniture in the whelping room. I think we will have a big job done soon the plumber sort the leakage out.

LOTs of news ... Happy Belated to Saturn; Agility @ Hinckley; and new addition ...

First of all,  

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO 

MY HANDSOME SOUL MATE SATURN

he turned SIX on Saturday, 4th June. I was away all day (nearly 20 hours!), so I could not post.

We had a great day out, eventhough he didn't do agility but we had a good walk and play and he had some lovely tasty yummy treat for his birthday. He is always a mummy's boy.

Agility news from Hinckley Champ Show. We woke up at 4am Saturday morning driven up to Hinckley. I've entered Sizzle and Sipzie at this show. There weren't any great classes there for Miss Sipzie, all the Medium classes are Combined 1-7 and sadly, for some lower grades dog, they only have ONE medium class, which is Combined 1-7 Agility on Saturday. I am very happy with her, she was running well but I don't think I was handling well, she missed her Dog Walk contact; I knew this is our weakest at the moment and I am still trying to fix this problem. Other than that, I kinda forgot the courses, especially the tunnel underneath the DW. I am so glad that she is getting her weave now and hopefully her confidence will rise and she will weave even more faster.

Sipzie - Combined 1-7 Agility:

Despite his tummy problem, Sizzle has been rested for the whole week doing no agility but only gentle walk, so I was expecting he will have energy for his Champ classes. He was running well in the Jumping round but my mishandling let him down again! He missed the 2nd last jump and we got eliminated, so getting into Final dream has once again evaporated! He also ran well in the Agility round, sadly our See-Saw contact was not good enough, more homework I think!

After that, Crufts 6-7 Agility was a total disaster. I knew if we can pull through from jump #1 to #3, we will be alright but of course I was standing on the wrong place to do my "scoop" and he back jump #2 and we got eliminated in that class too. I like the course, it was very challenging, you need to work almost every obstacle.

Sizzle's Crufts 6-7 Agility:

new ADDITION to The KNIGHTs Shelties. Meet Cara Scara, a 17 weeks old sable and white little girl from Mohnesee Shelties. Her posh name is Mohnesee Cara Mia. She was a real surprised; we have no plan to have another one so soon after Sonic but she just happened to be there! She will be her daddy's girl and she already is a daddy's girl. She prefers Colin to me and she loves jumping up to Colin for cuddles. She was called Cara before joining us, as you all guess, all our KNIGHTs Shelties name with a S. We have been thinking of so many names over the weekend and finally settled to SCARA which sounds closer to CARA and she is responding well to her new name.

Sonic loves to have a little play-mate. I was very worried that having another puppy, especially a bitch puppy will upset Sonic. Everytime we met up with Brooke at the show, the first 5-10 min, she tried to kill her brother but soon she settled and calm, they play nicely together, so I was really struggled to agree to have a bitch puppy now but Colin wanted her VERY MUCH.

Luckily, both Sonic and Scara played very well together. Scara is very lively and bouncy, she has no off-switch. Well, being a Mohness Mr Palmer's daughter, she has to be "nutty"! We are very lucky to have her and we love her to bits.

My main worried is training with Sonic. I thought he will be all distracted by her but he prove me wrong, two days in a row! First, I kept Scara in a different room, as you can guess, she wants to join in, so she screams, barks, whines ... but Sonic wasn't bother by all the noise she made. He was focus on my clicker training and tug game. I am so happy and proud of him. Then, later, I have Scara in the same room and did the same routine with Sonic and to my surprised, he was very good. He is all focus on what I am asking from him. I am so chuffed!

Sonic is a good player, he loves all his toys. He will play his toy himself; with me (or any human-being); and with other dogs. Scara does not know how to play. She tried to pick up toy but does not know how to deal with it and thank God, Sonic taught her how to play. That was so wonderful to watch. He will tease her to steal his toy but he is very good in keeping the toy in his mouth, so Scara has to tried harder. Over the last two days, she learned from Sonic that toy is a good game. Hopefully when she gets more confidence, I will interact the toy with her.

Scara will be Colin's dog but I can see that I am the one that trains her. Anyone who knows Colin knew how much he loves Seagull. Seagull's sire is Mohnesee Dreamsmith, a great dog in the sheltie history. Colin always wanted another Mohnesee sheltie. Colin loves his long walks, unfortunately Sing's injury cannot cope with anymore long walks; Seagull is never a good dog to take out for more than 30 min walk; he will not walk in the rain/snow or wet condition. His battery only last for 20min. Saturn and Sizzle are too much of mummy's boys. They will not go out with daddy, if ever mummy's is not well and daddy has to take them out, they have to stay on the lead as soon they are off lead, they will ran away from daddy and come back to mummy! Colin has tried taken Sipzie out but she also beginning to hesitate to go for a long walk with him; so this is why Colin has been thinking to get his own dog lately who he can take out for many good long walks.

Scara is very agile and crazy, I will train her alongside with Sonic, so she will be a truly KNIGHTs Sheltie. She is very tiny, only 11 inches at 17 weeks old. I think Sonic will be bigger than her very soon.

agility news update ... Sipzie and a bit of Sonic

I was having two minds whether to go to JDA this week or not, the main reason was Colin is at work and I will be camping on my own with young Sonic. I am not sure how well he will cope with camping at a big dog show; I am also worried that if I go and run the dogs, he will be left in the puppy pen for quite a long time as you never know how long you will be out there for, walking the course and queue to run ... then, I have some supportive friends especially auntie Sally encourage me to go because I plan to concentrate on Sipzie this week and being casual with Sizzle; the other reason that pushing me to go is baby Brooke.

It is weird that we have an agility show during the week. We left home on bank holiday Monday, the traffic was brilliant, not many cars on the road and we got there leisurely in two hours. Luckily Colin came with me so he can help me setting up the caravan, awning and garden. Shamed that he has to go home in the evening as he has to go to work during the week. Thank goodness all the big boys behaving themselves perfectly, I don't have to worry a bit. Sipzie can be a bit of pain, she is too clingy or could be a separation anxiety? Each time I left her in the garden and pop to the toilet just across the road, I can feel a cold wet nose touching my skin, there she is! When I look back to my caravan, Sing, Seagull, Saturn and Sizzle were all lying down by the door looking at me and baby Sonic was in the pen jumping up and down! 

My agility journey didn't start well at this show. Sizzle was down with his usual tummy problem on Monday night but he was looking ok on Tuesday, so I thought I will try to run him. What a mistake. He ran clear in a good Combined 6-7 course but he wasn't himself, so he is on the rest for the week. That gave me the opportunity to concentrate on Little Miss Sipzie. She has four classes each day, a Combined 3-5 Jumping; a Combined 3-5 Agility; a Grade 3,4,5 Agility and a Combined 1-3 Helter Skelter (Steeplecase).

She didn't started off well either on the first day (Tuesday). Her speed was inconsistent and we made a lot of mistakes, mainly refusal to some jumps. She is very clingy when she run. She likes to glue to me. If I run fast, she wants to chase me and when she gets excited and started barking, she will lost all her concentration and wanted to bite my arm. At the Helter Skelter course, we have 5 straight jumps home, I tried to let her go ahead and run slowly behind but encourage with my verbal "go go go ..." but when she sees I am not with her, she stop and turn around to catch up with me! Oh dear! We need to work hard on that!

On 2nd day (Wednesday), she was much better because we found auntie Rhoda to hold her while I was in the queue. She was so desperate to get back to me, so when we were on the start line, she was anxious to GO. Our first run was Combined 3-5 Jumping. We both started off well but got a little hip-cup on the box that cost us time but I am so pleased with her that she got 2nd in that class, only less than half a second behind the winner. In the Graded Agility class, she was on fire, she wanted to go and she flew around the course but missed her Dog Walk contact. I was extremely pleased with her attitude, she was very happy and work well. I do not mind the missing DW, I know I can fix it. Eventhough she missed her DW, she was 8 seconds faster than the winner! It is good to know she has the speed to do it. Then later in the Comb 3-5 Agility, she was once again on fire, she flew around the course but I pulled her too early over a jump that she came in to me. That is very good, I now have to learn the right timing for her. Again, she has the fastest time! Then, in the Helter Skelter, we were very unlucky, she was fast but a bit too fast that when she shot out of the pipe tunnel, she ran out of the ring instead of taking the jump! I have to laugh so hard that I nearly forgot to continue!

Yesterday (Thursday) was the last day, we started off with Combined 3-5 Jumping. I was determined to nail the course but maybe I was over confidence, Sipzie pop out 10th pole! Mmmm ... oh well but her time is still the fastest. Then, we were in the Steeplechase class, she ran really well but dropped the 2nd last bar! Dam! Again, fastest time! Just before lunch, we did the Combined 3-5 Agility. To be honest at that time, I just wish for a clear round, so me being me, try to handle her to every obstacle and when we did the last jump, the judge claps! WooHoo! First agility clear round! I was so happy! But my happiness didn't last very long. Sipzie won that class by 3 seconds! Why am I not happy when my dog won the class? Because I know Sipzie and me need some times to adjust ourselves to be a better Team. I want to stay in Grade 3 with her this season to build a strong working relationship. I knew she has the speed but we hardly get a clear round and there are so many things that we need to work on. I do not want her to climb the grade fast. I have learned from my lesson with Sizzle and I want a strong foundation before I reach the dizzy Advanced grades! Sadly, it happened at her 3rd show! Our last class was the Graded Agility, I thought since she won the Combined Agility, she must well try to win this one, it makes no difference now but dam! Everything was going so well until I got her excited again, she flew down the DW barking at me and didn't look ahead because she was busy trying to get my arm and she missed the weave! Grrrrrr ... now, to whine her up or not?

Her win of the Combined 3-5 Agility would have put her in the Final today but we decided not to do that. I am dying to go home and I am glad we are home.

Sonic was a good boy at the show. He was very well behaved and little craziness. You know all puppies like to do FRAP (frenetic random activity period), he will definitely has two FRAPs a day, he will run and run and run around the caravan, underneath the caravan ... and by the end of our camping period, he has learned a new trick. He will run and run and run ... then bounce onto our garden fencing (it is a strong durable good fencing), he will do it from wall to wall or should I say fence to fence. Because the fence is rubber/plastic so each time he bounced onto it and it bounced him back. I have to laugh so hard and each time I forgot to take my video camera out!

He doesn't mind the mad Collies and crazy Terriers barking around us and from time to time, he joined in. I took him out early in the morning and late at night to walk with the boys on the hill and he was brilliant. One evening, there were shooting going in the wood, he wasn't worried at all or not even noticed it. He got to meet some big dogs and he is getting braver each day. 

Oh, I think he loves all shelties, apart from playing with uncle Sizzle and uncle Seagull, he loves to harassing Wendy's Ella. Ella is a big sheltie, she is bigger than Saturn but everytime Sonic sees Ella, he will boing boing boing to get her to play with him. It was funny to watch!

Sipzie still won't accept him, he tried so hard to get her play but all she wants is to bite him! Mmmm ...

I am slowly re-introduce clicker to him, we've done a little clicker training this week while I am not running Sipzie. I even got him to stand on a box to get ready for the "elephant" trick. He has done well so far, and today, I decided to have my first move on the elephant trick ... here is the little video and at the end of it is a little video of him and Sizzle playing while we were camping.

Sonic 10 weeks!

 

Oh dear! Sonic is 10 weeks already! I can't believe how fast the time shooting by, although Brooke has joined her new family two weeks ago, I just can't get back to my old routine! The excuse is I now have Sonic! Hehehe ... the lounge is still messy, full of dog toys and some newspaper just in case Sonic wants to go toilet while I am not fast enough. Generally he has been very good with his toilet. He hardly mess on the carpet but we still try to teach him the garden is where he should have his toilet. He gets extremely excited whenever I let him out to the garden, he will charge around like a lunatic and always find something to play with, so whenever he is out, there is no way he will think of toilet. The weather has turned cold again, so I can't stay out too long in the garden for him to calm down ...

Sonic had his 2nd puppy vaccination on Friday. My usual vet Kevin is on holiday, he won't be back until two weeks later. Although I feel more comfortable with him but I won't want to wait for another two weeks to get Sonic jab. We saw a lady vet that I have never seen before; for the first time, I feel like turning back. I don't feel comfortable with her. Anyway, she asked me some silly questions such as "what sex is your puppy?", I told her he is a boy; then unexpectedly, she went on to check he got "willy". WHAT? As a normal routine, she checked his ears, eyes, teeth ... but hello, how can you check a puppy's ears with the puppy's back facing you? For all the time I went to my vet, I have never seen they done it this way. And, she is not gentle with Sonic! Luckily he is a tough boy and didn't bother by her. I won't go in detail on how she injected my puppy but this is the last time I want to see her. Just as she finished the injection, she said to me: your puppy is very nervous, you need to get him socialised and you cannot do that after 48 hours! WTF! Sonic was busy exploring every corner in his confident self while we are waiting and we even play tug with people and animals around and she told me my puppy is nervous? I can only shock my head in disgust! I am really wondering where her qualification comes from!! Or is she said that as a standard format to every dog owner?

I agreed to do a home check for a friend that involved in Sheltie Rescue. The home is in London so I thought it would be great to take Sonic for a day out. We traveled by bus/train/underground ... he wasn't bother by anything. He is an inquisitive little chap. We stood outside Sloane Square Station for about 15min, he was so busy exploring the surrounding and not fazed by anything. He certainly attracts a lot of attention; nearly everyone wanted to say hello to him. He was alright at first but he soon get very bored about people stroking him and right into his face. All he wants is to chase the pigeon and watching all the trishaw ... and chase the "flying" rubbish. He definitely is not a cuddly boy!

He was a very good boy meeting the 13 year old sheltie. We went to the flat where they live and he walked in like he own the place. He explored every corner like a dog should. He and the sheltie were playing nicely and it was so good to see how he cope with every new situation. I am very proud of him.

After the home check, we went to a busy market nearby. Again, more people cooing over him. Basically we just stood there for everyone to say hello to him. I can see that he really got fed up after 20min, so we decided to leave the market and take him to Hyde Park.

It was the Football Champion League yesterday in London, so there were tons of supporters from Manchester United and Barcelona around everywhere. They were singing, shouting, screaming ... very noisy. I am watching Sonic to see if he is stressed about them but Nope! He was quite happy and was busy checking everywhere. We saw some tame squirrels, they came up to people to ask for food and we were amazed how they actually climb up a man's trouser if he ignored them. I would be very scared of them. At one point, when Colin was holding Sonic, a squirrel came so close to me that made me jump! I guess this will be the heaven for Sing, Saturn, Sizzle and Seagull. They love chasing squirrels!

Sonic saw the squirrels for the first time in his life, he was shaking in excitement while I was holding his lead. I know I want to let him go to chase them but I do not want to upset the people that fed them. Soon, the people's gone, I let him go ... hehehe ... the natural instinct is CHASE! He is so close in getting one of them! Then, he was placed in the pigeons. He looked so confused, he don't know which one to go for! Maybe I should get Sizzle to teach him how to chase the bird!

Happy 10 weeks birthday to Sonic & sister Brooke!

So, Sonic is 9.5 weeks old now, where does all the time goes? Having him is another brand new chapter in my life! He is so different and "difficult" at the same time.  All these years, I brought home so many shelties and each one of them grew to attach to me; they follow me everywhere I go and they are like my shadow, never leave my side ... but Sonic, I guess being born here, he is so confident with all the surrounding and he is very independent. Brooke is different from him, she loves me and she like to jump on my lap whenever I get down on the floor with them, she will follow me everywhere ... just like the others.

I've trying very hard to get Sonic to "notice" me, don't get me wrong, he is very good with his name, he responded to it very well. He is not a foody dog, so our clicker training still didn't work out well at the moment. If I have a toy in one hand and yummy food in another hand, he will choose to play with the toy, whatever kind of toy that is! This is so much like my young Sing!

He is obsessed with CAT and POO BAG! He not only love our cat but also wanted to play with all cats he met at walk. I took him out last week to walk on the pavement and met a black cat. Unfortunately the cat was a little too friendly, he wanted to play with Sonic as well ... these two actually attracted so many passer by to watch them. I guess a lot of people still can't accept dog and cat can be friends! Whenever the cat is around, on sight, I will not get his attention but having said that, this evening, I managed to call him back from playing with the cat in the garden. A good sign, I hope!

His other passion is poo bag, whether a clean one or one that filled up with poo! I always have a handful of poo bag in my pocket, trouser pocket or fleece pocket and he knew it! If I am sitting down, he will come near me and pinch the poo bag from my pocket and run away. I can never catch him, he is so fast and cheeky. If I am standing up, when he saw the poo bad dangling out from my pocket, he will jump and try to get it. Believe me, he has spring on his legs just like his mama Samber!

As I have said, we done very little of clicker training, I am not rushing in teaching him anything. He is a very happy boy, a bit vocal, a bit bitey but very playful! I am enjoying him. He knew how to sit/down/touch and left & right. I think that is pretty good for him at this age. We do a lot of us racing each other whenever we are out and him charging up to me and grab his teddy tuggy! He loves this game. He is happy to chase anyone. We have him racing Matt & Rhoda (Brooke's daddy & mummy) at the Sheltie Camp. I think I need to work hard to get him to bond with me and focus on me only. He is a tug monster just like his daddy; I am working on the retrieve, he sometimes get it and most of the time DON'T! I guess he is only young ...

I still need to get his confident back meeting other dogs and people. He is still unsure after being "attack" by the Goldie last week. Sometimes, it make me thinks about this early socialisation! He was quite brave at the Sheltie Camp. There was a very nice Tervuren (Belgian Shepherd) Bertie at the Camp; he wanted to say hello to him all weekend but just not quite brave enough but by Sunday, he was getting closer to him. I took him to Pets at Home yesterday to buy some more toys (am I crazy?), we saw some dogs and he ran straight up to two Dachshund to say hello to them. WOW! That was so good, I was really pleased with that. We also saw some rabbits and guinea pigs and he was amused by them!

He absolutely loves the outdoor, he likes to go out with the big boys but he is too young to go out everyday ...

I noticed in the last couple of days that Sizzle finally "accepted" this little wild child, he will tease him and they both will bark at each other then ran away racing ... I am so worried about Sizzle as he has been jealous about the puppies. It is so good to see him playing with Sonic. Sipzie is still not very good with Sonic, I don't know why. She was an angel with Silky but never accepted this litter.

Sonic is also the only puppy that I can't trust OFF lead, all the others that joined us, I let them go off lead the first day I took them out walking and they always stay close by my side in whatever circumstances. Sonic is too bold and confident and I have no control over him YET! I have tried taking him out on his own, he was the same, he will run/walk away from me confidently and busy sniffing ... never really come back to me when called. I always attach a lightweight lead so I can catch him. Oh, another thing, I cannot catch my puppy! He would not let me catch him or he will never really come close to me ... I am working hard on this and this week, I can see the improvement ... he actually let me touch him! Jackpot! I have to learn to be patient!!

Sheltie Camp

We had a fantastic time at the Sheltie Camp this weekend. We used to go to the Camp every year but for the last three years, we've been away in Malaysia due to family illness. I really missed the training Camp. I was so glad that we could make it this year as it was such a good socialisation for Sonic to be able to. meet other dogs and people. The Camp is all about Fun, Fun and FUN!

I was asked to help assisting Indira teaching Agility on Saturday, so I thought it would be good to bring our caravan out first time this year too. This is Sonic's first camping trip and he was coping very well but he already learned how to escape from the "garden" too! There were a few campers before we arrived on Friday night, so it was nice and relaxing. All the dogs love to be outdoor. I think they were a bit surprised that we are NOT doing agility. Bless them! This made me more determined that we should take a break this year and have a holiday in Scotland!

The weather was kind to us on Saturday. It was dry and sunny, not too hot like they usually do at Sheltie Camp. After this weekend, I realised how much I enjoyed teaching people to something I like. We have quite a handful of beginners and another handful of baby dogs. I was so happy to see all the shelties are very happy and driven, they are all highly motivated too. Many of them have not done any agility before and some of them has done a little bit but they are all very good, I am so looking forward to seeing them competing in the ring, they will be all future agility stars!

I was amazed on how my boys and Sipzie behaved. I set up the agility equipments in front of our caravan. All the dogs were sitting in the garden, watching through the fencing but none of them actually escaped or even trying. Sonic is too young and busy with himself, the noise and excitement didn't bother him at all. He either played with his own toys or fell asleep but he managed to break through the insecure fencing a couple of times, not after me though!

Apart from Agility and Obedience, we also have Dog Fun Game at the Camp this year.

 A big Congratulations to 7 months old baby Silky for passing her Good Citizen Bronze on Saturday. She and Coco attended the Camp on Saturday with her mummy and daddy. Silky did a bit of Agility with me and I think she is natural. She just loved it. We did a bit of jump-tunnel-jump with her and before long, she is able to do jump-tunnel-jump on her own! What a clever girlie.

 I was really spoilt at the Camp. Silky came to cheer me up on Saturday and Brooke came on Sunday. Sonic was so happy to see his sister and Brooke was so happy to see him too, so she can beat him up again! LOL

Mai handsome boy Sonic. I was wondering how to teach him to use the step to go into the caravan. Before I thought him, he already knew how to jump up the step and then hop into the caravan. Such clever puppy!

More pups-date later ... I am exhausted after this weekend. I have no energy to do anything for a while!
